Corto in Bra to Fund Production of Winning Screenplay

Palazzo Mathis – Boccondivino Courtyard
From Monday June 21 to Sunday June 27

Seminario Di Sceneggiatura Con Francesco Cenni Government spending on the arts slashed, advertising revenue in freefall, cuts in film, cuts in television… These days it’s almost impossible for a filmmaker to find the resources to make a short film and put his or her talent to the test. Luckily, Corto in Bra can offer a helping hand to one budding filmmaker. Every other year since 1996, the festival has held a competition for new short screenplays, with the winner awarded a prize of 7,000 euros to be used to fund the production of his or her short film.

This year, the prize is linked to Bra-inStorming, a workshop to be held in the four days before the festival (which will be in Bra on June 24-27, 2010) during which five shortlisted screenwriters will work on polishing their projects prior to presenting them to the jury.

In this edition workshop will be led by Filippo Gravino, winner of the 2003 Solinas prize for Il nemico nell’acqua (The enemy in the water), the 2008 Solinas prize for Quando gli elefanti combattono (When elephants fight) and best screenplay at the Roma FictionFest 2008 for the TV series I liceali.

The screenwriting workshop Bra-inStorming is designed to take screenwriting projects and improve their narrative, dramatic and production quality, with an eye to eventual realization. The idea came about from observing the delicate phase of development, when writers often find themselves alone, without support. At last year’s Corto in Bra, the Bra-inStorming process produced excellent results; some of the participants went on to win prestigious prizes with the screenplays developed during the workshop.

At the end of the workshop, the screenwriters will have a chance to present their stories at the Pitch-nic, a new event for this year’s Corto in Bra, a conivial, open-air event where the jury of film professionals will have a chance to judge the final scripts. They will then choose a winner, who will have one year to use the prize money to turn his or her dream into reality.
